ST. JOHN’S (N.L.) – Donna Evely of Heart’s Content, N.L. was working with her husband delivering flyers when she bought some Scratch’N Win tickets along their route. While her husband was driving them to their next delivery location, Evely decided to scratch her tickets.
“When I looked and saw I had matched the lucky number, I scratched the prize underneath and I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Evely said. “I said to my husband, ‘Stop the car, I think I won $1 million!’”
Casino Multiplier is a $10 Scratch’N Win ticket with a top prize of $1 million. The game launched in January 2023 and there are two top prizes still remaining.
The couple felt they still needed to complete their flyer run, even after the surprise of their big win, but they eagerly headed back to the store where Evely purchased the ticket to validate it as soon as their work was done.
“My husband was just beaming, his face lit up and he said to the manager of the store, ‘I can’t believe it, I just can’t believe it,’” Evely said. “I think we all cried, the whole staff at the store just gathered all around and congratulated us.”
Evely and her husband plan to use their prize money to visit their kids for Christmas and to upgrade their vehicle and their motorhome. The couple is planning to go on a cruise and are already discussing other potential trips to take after that.
“I can do things to help people. I always did, but I can do more to help them now and we can have a better lifestyle ourselves,” Evely said. “We’ve always had to scrimp and save and now, maybe some of the things we would have liked to have but did without, we could actually have.”
Evely purchased her winning Casino Multiplier ticket at O'Brien's Clover Farm in Cape Broyle, N.L. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
