HALIFAX (N.S.) – Sandra Lasaga of Eastern Passage, N.S. is the province’s newest millionaire after winning the guaranteed $1-million Gold Ball draw prize on the Dec. 2 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I was on my way to my grandson’s hockey game when I stopped for gas and noticed the jackpot was getting up there and I thought I should get a ticket,” Lasaga said. “I got the ticket, went to hockey and never thought anything of it until my sister said that someone in Eastern Passage won.”
Lasaga checked the winning numbers online but saw she didn’t match a single digit on the Classic Draw. It wasn’t until her husband pointed out that her 10-digit Gold Ball draw number matched exactly, that she realized she was in fact that winner from Eastern Passage.
Lotto 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday with two multi-million jackpots available to be won. The classic jackpot is always set at $5 million and the Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and can grow past $60 million. The Gold Ball draw guarantees a winning ticket on every draw, with the winner taking home $1 million if a white ball is drawn or the growing Gold Ball jackpot when a gold ball is drawn. A white ball was drawn on the Dec. 2 draw, leading to Lasaga’s $1-million win.
“First thing I will do is help my family,” Lasaga said. “Put some smiles on some people’s faces, make some people happy.”
Other plans for her prize money include a new vehicle and trips to Europe and Disney with her children and grandchildren. Lasaga says a new house may even be in the couple’s future and that they look forward to a retirement with no financial worries.
Lasaga purchased her winning Lotto 6/49 ticket at Circle K in Eastern Passage, N.S. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
