MONCTON (N.B.) – A regular lottery player for more than 30 years, Sharon Gallup of Burton, N.B. was overwhelmed with excitement when she won the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw guaranteed prize worth $1 million on the May 25, 2024 draw.

While Gallup always dreamed of the excitement a big lottery win could bring, she didn’t realize how many people would share in it with her.

“I was shocked, I counted the zeros a couple of times before I called somewhere here at Atlantic Lottery and spoke with a nice young man who was very excited,” Gallup said. “He’s a new employee and he said, ‘I want to make sure I get everything right,’ and I said, ‘Well, Nick, I want you to get everything right too so let’s just both calm down and take a breath and I’ll let you do what you need to do.”

After setting an appointment to visit Atlantic Lottery’s head office in Moncton to process her big win, Gallup was eager to share the news with her daughters.

“I called my youngest daughter, and she yelled quite loudly in my ear, she could barely believe what I was telling her,” Gallup said. “Then I called my other who was in church, but I didn’t realize it, so she was whispering to me, ‘I’m in church, I can’t scream,’ so we had quite the conversation once she was finally free.”

Gallup’s two daughters accompanied her to Atlantic Lottery when it was time to process her win, where she was again surprised at how many other people shared in her excitement.

“We had parked in one of the winner’s parking spots in the lot and a pedestrian was walking by,” Gallup said. “When they saw us there, they stopped and clapped. A total stranger.”

Plans for her winnings include purchasing a new vehicle and helping her two daughters and grandchildren. Gallup says taking care of her family is her main priority, but she will have more freedom to do what she wants when opportunities arise.

“I could really cry now because it really is quite overwhelming,” Gallup said. “You dream of this day, every time you buy a ticket you dream and now it’s here.”
