Multi-Factor Authentication is an additional security feature that you can choose to enable on your Alc.ca account. Once enabled, you will be prompted to enter a 6-digit code that will be sent to you via sms (text), or by phone (only option for landline users). When enabled, you will be prompted to enter a secure code at sign-in, to change your password/phone number or to disable Multi-factor Authentication. Enabling or Disabling Multi-factor authentication can be updated in the Sign In Information section of your profile.
How do I enable MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)?
Sign-in to your Alc.ca account.
Under My Profile, scroll to the Sign In Information section.
Under Multi-Factor Authentication, select the EDIT button to bring up the following screen:
Choose Set Up Now to continue. The Multi-Factor Authentication Setup page will come up.
Select a radio button to receive the code via Text or Call. If the phone number associated to your account is a landline, you must choose call.
You will then receive a text message containing a 6-digit code or if you choose a phone call as your method, you will receive a call that will play a recorded message with your code.
You will then need to enter the 6-digit code:
Once the code has been successfully verified, you will see a confirmation screen that MFA is enabled!
What if I didn’t get a code or it expired?
Codes will expire after 5 minutes. If your code expired or you did not receive one, simply use the Resend Code feature on the authentication pop up to get another one sent to you!
Do I have to authenticate every time I log in if I enable MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)?
No. There is a 24-hour grace period for Sign-in. Once you have been successfully authenticated, you will not be asked to authenticate to Sign-in for 24 hours. You would still need to authenticate to change your password, update your phone number or disable MFA.
Can I disable MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)?
Yes. MFA an optional feature that can be disabled in your profile, under the Sign-in Information section in your profile.
